Teachers laud commitment to reforms that will improve student outcomes
Casey Cagle, the leading conservative Republican for governor, today announced the public endorsement of Educators First. Cagle’s nationally renowned education reform measures – including the Charter Systems Act, College and Career Academy Network, and GA CATT apprenticeship program – have been integral in transforming Georgia’s one-size-fits-all education system into a revolutionary model that puts students first.
Educators First is a truly bipartisan coalition of educators that focuses strictly on issues involving educators, principals, and students. Educators First focuses on education issues in Georgia – rather than involve itself in Washington D.C. policy decisions.
“I am humbled and extremely excited to be the candidate supported by Educators First,” said Cagle. “Having been raised in a single wide trailer, by a single mother, I was not supposed to be Lt. Governor. But, my public school education allowed me to transcend challenging circumstances and realize incredible success in the public and private sectors. I look forward to working with the educators across our state to empower teachers and principals to take control of their own classrooms.”
“We trust that Casey will continue to lead for the best interests of educators in every Georgia community,” said Elizabeth Rhodes. “Casey’s commitment to education has been apparent, and his ability to deliver on common-sense reforms that move the needle for our parents, students, and teachers will serve our state well. We look forward to working with Governor Cagle.”
Cagle details his vision for a world-class public education system in his book, Education Unleashed. His vision revolves around a system with an academic floor for all students – but within that floor there can be no cracks for students to fall between – and no ceiling to hold any student back.
Cagle’s education platform includes enhancing local control over public schools, decreasing the amount of onerous paperwork that burdens already overworked educators, eliminating high-stakes standardized testing, improving third-grade reading levels, and declaring war on high school dropout rates.
Cagle continues to accumulate all the momentum in the governor’s race. Alongside the announcement of the Educators First, Inc. endorsement, Cagle has been endorsed by over 100 sheriffs across the state, has received unprecedented financial support, and has built a grassroots organization that covers the entire state.
Cagle has pledged to continue cutting taxes for hard-working Georgians, deliver a comprehensive 10-year infrastructure plan, and create 500,000 new jobs in the first four years of his administration. He has also made workforce development a top priority.
