The 2017 Legislative Session is Underway

From Casey Cagle

We have officially kicked off the 2017 legislative session in the Gold Dome.

And let me be perfectly clear about our priorities: every one of my efforts will be laser-focused on empowering Georgia’s businesses and families and protecting our Constitutional rights.

For me, that starts by working with President-elect Trump and Congressman Tom Price to implement a state-based solution to Obamacare. This law and its 20,000 pages of regulations have crippled our economy for too long, and it’s far past time to provide relief to our local businesses.

We will also continue to strengthen the current climate for job creation and build upon the policies that have made Georgia the top state for business the last four years. This means finding ways to keep taxes low, scrapping job-killing regulations, and keeping the budget balanced.

But it is not enough for us just to focus on securing Georgia’s business climate today. If we are to remain competitive for 21st Century jobs, we must reform the education system to ensure every child is prepared for college or a career.

That’s why we will continue to propose solutions that embolden local parents and teachers; we will ensure that spending is prioritized on students, not bureaucratic overhead, and we will continue to provide parents with more options to ensure that no child is limited by their zip code.

Additionally, this legislative session will be one that adheres to and protects the Constitutional rights of every Georgian. For the last eight years, we have faced an unprecedented assault on our rights.

But we fought back and won.

And you have my word to keep up the good fight. Whether it’s fighting attempts to limit our constitutional 2nd amendment rights or use taxpayer dollars to fund abortions, I’m committed to defending our freedoms and beliefs.

My friend, these are just some of my top priorities this year, but I felt it was important for you to know them. It is going to be an important session and I look forward to updating you as we move forward.

Regards,

Casey
